Demopolis, Ala. Police in Demopolis, Ala., are warning residents about a computer scam that's affecting households across the country.
It involves individuals posing as employees for Microsoft. They're calling people and telling them that data received shows that their computer may be infected with a virus.
That's when the con-artist asks the homeowner to download software on his or her computer, which will be accessed by company officials by remote.
Police Chief Tommie Reese is advising residents not to do this because he says it allows the con-artist to steal the homeowner's personal information.
