Gulfport police say a man and woman from Meridian have been charged with two counts of felony child abuse for allegedly leaving two children in a hot car while they visited a coast casino.
According to a news release, Gulfport officers arrested 32-year-old James Terrell Dunn and 33-year-old Monique Latrice Newton, August 8.
Police say a complaint was made by a security officer of Island View Casino, who observed a 9-year-old female and 11-year-old male in a car with the windows up in 95 degree heat and a heat index of 109.
The parents, Dunn and Newton, were later located inside the gambling area and were arrested.
Bond was set at $50,000 each for Dunn and Newton. Gulfport police say the investigation is continuing.
