Social Work Students Recognized

MSU Meridian celebrated National Professional Social Work Month with its annual social work awards program.

The theme for this year is "Weaving Threads of Resilience and Advocacy: The Power of Social Work."

Twenty-one students were honored with awards and eleven of those were inducted into the Phi Alpha National Honor Society.

The students put in 450 hours of community service around the area as part of the program.

"We teach our students that in order to help and assist others, they must be resilient and they must advocate for their clients no matter what," said Rhonda Carr, director of MSU Meridian's social work program.

Some of the places the students volunteer include East Mississippi State Hospital, Weems Mental Health Center, the Department of Human Services and some private schools.
