The state has more than doubled the number of cases of the respiratory illness over the last month and the last two weeks have brought more than 17,000 of those, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Meridian paving bond issue still in the works. Last month, City Council decided to move forward with plans for the issuance of up to $12 million in bonds for paving and infrastructure. The proposed funds would go towards street paving, traffic light upgrades, and other road repairs.
We look to see partly cloudy skies on our Tuesday with a chance of scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. Rain chances will be slightly higher than compared to yesterday, but many of us will still remain dry.
Intense heat will continue to bake much of the Deep South throughout this week. Spotty showers will be few, but they can provide some short-lived relief from the most intense heat if you're lucky enough to be found by one of those showers.
Heat will increase heading into the weekend. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid-90s with heat indices as high as 105. We’ll get even warmer heading into Sunday, with heat index values expected to climb as high as 108.
