Mayor's race down to three candidates

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Libertarian Party candidate Mariner Durant told Newscenter 11 Tuesday that he's dropping out of the Meridian mayor's race.

Durant did not appear at a mayoral forum sponsored by the Meridian Board of Realtors Tuesday.

When asked his reason, Durant said "for security reasons" but would not elaborate.

Durant added that he's throwing his support to independent Dustin Markham. The other two candidates in the race are current Mayor Percy Bland, a Democrat, and Republican William Compton.

The municipal election is set for June 6.
