Pre-Season Preview: Choctaw Central Warriors
CHOCTAW , Miss. (WTOK) - The Choctaw Central Warriors are gearing up for Year Two under Head Football Coach, Edward Routh.
Routh has been coaching for two decades at Choctaw Central, but the 2023 season was his first as a Head Coach.
The 2023 season wasn’t a great one in terms of wins and losses, But Coach Routh embraced the challenges it presented to him, and he’s making adjustments heading into this season.
“It was a learning curve. Being here as an assistant is one thing. When you’re at the helm, there’s a lot more pressure on you and you know, you try to be innovative and take things over from the other guy and make things... Learn things that you’ve learned, but also try to keep things simple. [2023] Wasn’t the best season, you know, we would like to have had, but we definitely learned. I think we’ve come a long way,” Coach Routh said.
Coach Routh added on top of him making adjustments, he loves what he’s seeing out of his Senior Class this year, as they get ready for their last year in High School Football.
“We have a great group of Seniors. The cohesion there is fantastic. They’ve played ball together for the last four years together, but I can’t speak enough for them. I mean, they’re demonstrating the leadership that you’ve always wanted as a coach,” Coach Routh said.
“It means a whole lot, bringing out Freshmen, just encouraging everybody, and pushing everybody. It feels great,” Senior Wide Receiver / Defensive Back, Cruz Wilson said.
The Warriors will kick their 2024 Season off on Friday, August 30, when they host the Union Yellow Jackets.
