DirecTV will compensate customers impacted by Disney blackout but they have to take action
(CNN) – DirecTV is offering some compensation to customers as the blackout of Disney-owned channels stretches into a third day.
The company is offering credits of at least $20 to customers who have DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse services, but customers won’t receive it automatically.
Customers will have to go to apply for the rebate online.
Disney pulled ESPN and other cable channels it owns fromDirecTV’s lineup Sunday after the two companies failed to reach a new distribution deal.
The stations include Freeform, FX and local ABC affiliates.
The outage impacts at least 11 million subscribers.
It comes as college football and the NFL seasons get underway and the US Open tennis tournament reaches its final few days.
In announcing the compensation, DirecTV said it’s pursuing every avenue to get the stations back.
Disney says it will not enter a deal that undervalues its portfolio of TV channels and programs.
