Teacher pay raise bill revived, passes Mississippi House
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi House executed a strike-all amendment on Friday morning in order to pass a Senate bill that would result in teachers getting a pay raise.
This according to Representative Fred Shanks, who posted on Facebook that the House passed SB 2103.
The bill, which previously passed the Senate on February 4, includes a $5,000 teacher pay raise for all K-12 public school teachers, a $3,000 additional supplement for special needs teachers, and a $3,000 pay raise for assistant teachers.
It also corrects the holiday payroll issue currently causing a 45-day pay gap for public school teachers, the post read.
On Tuesday, SB 2103, among other teacher pay raise bills, died prior to the House reviving SB 2103 on Friday.
Shanks said corrections were also made to PERS Tier 5, most notably with state employee retirement adjusted to 30 years from 35 years, and first responders’ retirement adjusted to 25 years from 35 years.
SB 2103 has gone back to the Senate for final approval of the changes made.
