MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The owners of Elvis Presley’s music are suing AI company Anthropic after allegedly using his songs without permission and creating alternate versions.

The lawsuit alleges Anthropic used lyrics from 274 songs to train its Claude chatbot.

The rights holders are seeking up to $150,000 per song and want copies destroyed. The lawsuit seeks more than $40 million in damages and an order to destroy all unauthorized copies of copyrighted works.

Anthropic said it disagrees with the lawsuit and will defend the case.

Last year, the company agreed to a $1.5 billion settlement in a copyright lawsuit filed by authors who said Anthropic pirated copies of books to train AI models.
